The Liberty Fire Company No. 4 of Schuylkill Haven is pleased to announce that we have been awarded an Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) in the amount of $455,239.00 to replace our 1980 Mack CF pumper. The federal grant awards were announced publicly today by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the agency which administers the program.
The primary goal of the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) is to meet the firefighting and emergency response needs of fire departments and non-affiliated emergency medical service organizations. Since 2001, AFG has helped firefighters and other first responders obtain critically needed equipment, protective gear, emergency vehicles, training and other resources necessary for protecting the public and emergency personnel from fire and related hazards.
The Liberty Fire Company No. 4 purchased the 1980 Mack CF pumper in 1994 after it served more than a decade with the FDNY in the Bronx. Since 1994, the Mack has served the Borough of Schuylkill Haven and its surrounding communities as a front-line engine and is one of the oldest fire engines still in-service within our county. The acquisition of this vehicle grant will allow us to purchase a brand-new apparatus that will provide our volunteer firefighters with the life-saving equipment necessary to safely and aggressively protect lives and property for years to come.
The Liberty Fire Company No. 4 would like to thank our community, as this opportunity would not have been made possible without your continued support.
